Season 2 of “Heated Rivalry” is coming “as soon as humanly possible,” according to series creator Jacob Tierney.

Tierney appeared alongside executive producer Brendan Brady on “CBS Mornings” on Thursday and gave Gayle King an update on how the next instalment of their hockey romance drama is progressing. Production on Season 2 is slated to begin this August, with an expected release date in April 2027.

“There will be more Heated Rivalry on your TVs truly as soon as humanly possible,” Tierney told King, leaning into the show’s secret romance and saying fans should “enjoy the yearn” until they can watch new episodes.

“Heated Rivalry” is based on the “Game Changers” book series by Rachel Reid. The series, produced by the Crave in Canada and streaming on HBO Max in the U.S., follows star hockey players Shane Hollander (Hudson Williams) and Ilya Rozanov (Connor Storrie), “two of the biggest stars in Major League Hockey, bound by ambition, rivalry and a magnetic pull neither of them fully understands,” according to the official series description. “What begins as a secret fling between two fresh-faced rookies evolves into a years-long journey of love, denial and self-discovery. Over the next eight years, the pair chase glory on the ice while struggling to navigate their feelings off it. Torn between the sport they live for and the love they can’t ignore, Shane and Ilya must decide if there is room in their fiercely competitive world for something as fragile and as powerful as real love.”

The news comes after Reid announced that “Unrivaled,” the upcoming seventh book in the “Game Changers” series, has been delayed from from its planned Sept. 29 release date to June 1, 2027 as she deals with worsening symptoms of her Parkinson’s disease as well as a busier schedule due to the exploding success of “Heated Rivalry.”
