A spokesperson for Donald Trump‘s White House is attacking ABC’s “The View” after Joy Behar claimed on the July 23 episode that Trump is “jealous” of Barack Obama. It all started the day prior, when Trump alleged that Obama was “trying to lead a coup” in the past and accused Obama of “treason.”
“First of all, who tried to overthrow the government on Jan. 6. Who was that again? That was not Obama,” Behar fired back at Trump in response (via EW). “The thing about him is he’s so jealous of Obama, because Obama is everything that he is not: Trim, smart, handsome, happily married, and can sing Al Green’s song ‘Let’s Stay Together’ better than Al Green. And Trump cannot stand it. It’s driving him crazy.”
White House spokesperson Taylor Rogers clapped back at Behar and “The View” in a statement to Variety that reads: “Joy Behar is an irrelevant loser suffering from a severe case of Trump Derangement Syndrome. It’s no surprise that The View’s ratings hit an all-time low last year. She should self-reflect on her own jealousy of President Trump’s historic popularity before her show is the next to be pulled off air.”
Variety reached out to “The View” spokesperson for comment. The show’s representative refuted Trump’s claims about its ratings by telling Entertainment Weekly that “The View” is “up in total viewers and women 18-49, versus the comparable weeks last season, to its most-watched in four years” and “season to date, ‘The View’ is ranking No. 1 in households and total viewers among all network daytime talk shows and news programs for the fifth straight season.”
Behar and her fellow hosts on “The View” such as Whoopi Goldberg have long been critical of Trump and regularly speak out against him during the show. Trump has been on a tear lately against talk show hosts in the wake of CBS cancelling Stephen Colbert’s “The Late Show.” Before he said “The View” would get pulled next, Trump boasted that Jimmy Kimmel’s ABC late night show would be “NEXT to go in the untalented Late night Sweepstakes.”
Kimmel responded to Trump in a post on Instagram with this comment: “I’m hearing you’re next. Or maybe it’s just another wonderful secret.”
“Wonderful secret” is a reference to a Wall Street Journal story, published July 17, that claimed Trump sent a letter to Jeffrey Epstein in 2003 that was included in a birthday album of well-wishes.
