Stan has locked in a July 2 premiere for The Carters: Hurts to Love You, a new two-part documentary that charts the turbulent rise and painful aftermath of one of pop’s most recognisable families — the Carters.

Told through the eyes of Angel Carter Conrad, sister to Backstreet Boys’ Nick Carter and the late pop artist Aaron Carter, the documentary offers a raw and unfiltered look at the realities of growing up inside a fame-driven household. Directed by Soleil Moon Frye (Kid 90), the project draws on years of personal family archives to piece together a story marked by immense talent, traumatic loss and the long shadow cast by celebrity.

The film explores how early stardom shaped — and in some cases, shattered — the lives of the Carter siblings, who became household names in the late ‘90s and early 2000s. Aaron Carter became one of the youngest solo male pop stars in history, while Nick Carter’s success with the Backstreet Boys propelled the family into an intense media spotlight. But behind the scenes, the family was battling addiction, fractured relationships and undiagnosed mental health issues.

Three of the five Carter children, along with their father, have since died.

The series includes intimate footage and never-before-seen material spanning decades — including home videos, personal text messages and audio diaries — and features deeply personal conversations between Angel and Nick Carter, now the only two surviving Carter siblings. Frye was given unprecedented access to the family’s private archive, pulling together years of material that had never been made public.

In addition to the Carter siblings, Hurts to Love You also includes interviews with friends and industry insiders, including actor Melissa Joan Hart, musician Scout Willis, and longtime Carter manager Lori Knight. The goal, according to producers, was not just to revisit the family’s past, but to highlight broader conversations about grief, resilience, and the long-term toll of child stardom.

The documentary is produced by See It Now Studios and Candle True Stories, with executive producers James Goldston, Steven Baker, Cynthia Childs and Frye. Paramount Global Content Distribution is handling worldwide sales.

The Carters: Hurts to Love You is the latest in a growing slate of emotionally driven, music-adjacent documentaries for Stan, following projects like Revealed: Danielle Laidley and Facing the Music.

The two-part documentary premieres July 2, streaming only on Stan.
