‘SNL50’: Marcello Hernández’s Domingo Meets Pedro Pascal and Bad Bunny, Duets With Sabrina Carpenter on Taylor Swift Song

Domingo sketch on SNL50

At a concert late last year, Sabrina Carpenter played at “arresting” Marcello Hernández’s “Saturday Night Live” character Domingo.

And during the “SNL” 50th anniversary special, the pair were reunited.

In a blowout “vow renewal” sketch featuring Molly Shannon and Martin Short as the parents of bride Kelsey (Chloe Fineman), Sabrina Carpenter led the bridal party in paying musical tribute to her friend, with the song — just as in previous sketches — giving way to an unpacking of the affair Kelsey had been carrying on with Domingo. (In this case, it was a rendition of “Defying Gravity,” with Carpenter singing the closing battle cry, followed by a rendition of Taylor Swift’s “You Belong With Me.”)

But the sketch didn’t end there: A groomsmen’s party comprised of Bowen Yang, Andy Samberg, Kyle Mooney, and Beck Bennett performed a rendition of Carpenter’s own song “Espresso” — the same song from the first “Domingo” sketch” — to pay tribute to groom Matt’s (Andrew Dismukes) own old flame Ronaldo (Pedro Pascal). The star power of the sketch only multiplied when it was revealed that Ronaldo and Domingo are two of three brothers, and their third brother was played by Bad Bunny, whose character had his own history with Shannon’s character.

Domingo first appeared in a sketch with host Ariana Grande, in which the bridal party honored his history with Kelsey by singing “Espresso” at Kelsey and Matt’s wedding, and then again in a sketch with host Charli XCX, in which Kelsey’s friends marked the occasion of her babymoon by performing a rendition of Chappell Roan’s “Hot to Go!” In all three cases, the lyrics have reflected Kelsey’s obsessive interest in Domingo — but never before had we met his extended family.
