The upcoming season of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” isn’t out yet, but it looks like there’ll at least be an 18th season on the way.

In an Australian exclusive with Rolling Stone AU/NZ while promoting the latest season of his Apple TV+ series, “Mythic Quest“, show creator Rob McElhenney confirmed that Season 17 wrapped shooting last December and the episodes will hit FX (Disney+ in Australia) later this year.

The actor also confirmed is that the gang – which includes Glenn Howerton, Charlie Day, Kaitlin Olsen and Danny DeVito – is already in talks with the network about the future of the beloved show.

“ I was just texting with Glenn right before we got on [this] call about going back in the editing room tomorrow,” McElhenney shared.

“We’ve got almost all the episodes from Season 17 edited, and then the next text was from FX asking about a calendar for next year. And I said, ‘I’m sorry, I’m in the middle of a press junket. Let’s talk about a calendar.  Just give me, like, 15 minutes!'”

Season 16 premiered back in June 2023, but it’s understandably been a very busy time for all of the lead stars, including DeVito celebrated his milestone 80th birthday late last year.

McElhenney has also been busy with his Wrexham football club commitments, alongside co-owner Ryan Reynolds, and “Mythic Quest” which just premiered its fourth season last week.

McElhenney has previously stated he doesn’t see “It’s Always Sunny” ending anytime soon. Similarly, he hopes “Mythic Quest” enjoys the same run.

“I  would love to do as many seasons of ‘Mythic Quest’ as we’ve done of ‘Sunny,'” he told Rolling Stone AU/NZ.

“I think that the world can continue to give us these rich stories and it’s just a matter of whether or not it hits that cultural zeitgeist in the way that [the ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ documentary] did or in the way that ‘Sunny’ did.

“I believe it can. I believe it has the pedigree and the quality to do that. It’s just a matter of is it going catch fire this year or not? And I think it will.”

Season four of “Mythic Quest” is available to watch on Apple TV+ now.
