Nine has shared new plans for its Streaming and Broadcast division, including a fresh leadership team and new ways of working.
Amanda Laing, Managing Director of Streaming and Broadcast, said these changes will help Nine grow and drive revenue. This is part of the bigger “Nine2028” program to transform the company. The changes come after Nine introduced a new Group Operating Model and started the Streaming and Broadcast Division earlier this year.
The update brings new leadership roles that cover Channel 9, 9Now, and Stan together for the first time.
Michael Healy is the new Executive Director of Entertainment. With 40 years of experience creating local shows, Healy will work on free and subscription TV and streaming. Laing said, “Michael has an innate sensibility of what Australian audiences want to watch, the talent they love, and the stories that will strike a chord.”
Cailah Scobie will lead Entertainment Content Acquisitions. She has experience with free and paid platforms and is good at finding shows that can bring in ads and subscriptions.
Fiona Dear stays as Executive Director of News & Current Affairs. She will keep leading news stories across all Nine brands and help update 9News.
Sport is still a key part of Nine and the biggest area for spending. To work better, Wide World of Sports and Stan Sport will join under Brent Williams.
Laing will also run a program to find new ways to grow Nine’s sports business, including ads, subscriptions, rights, and partnerships.
Two new executive jobs have been created:
Chief Strategy Officer, who will help plan and make decisions for all free and paid products. Hiring will start soon.
Chief Marketing Officer, who will lead marketing across many platforms. This job will also be filled soon.
State Managing Directors in Queensland (Kylie Blucher), Western Australia (Clive Bingwa), and South Australia (Sean O’Brien) will now report to Laing. This is to help grow business in those areas.
Other leadership roles are:
Hamish Turner, Executive Director for Channel 9, 9 multi-channels, and 9Now, handling their profits and losses.
Dan Taylor, Executive Director for Stan, managing its profits and losses as a key growth area.
Tom Malone stays Managing Director of Radio, which still brings in revenue for Nine.
Laing said: “There is immense opportunity to drive growth for the Nine Group and strong momentum already underway.
“While Nine’s streaming and broadcast brands have enjoyed independent success, our strength lies in the power of the Nine Group and today’s changes are the first step in unlocking that potential.
“We’re lucky enough to have some of the industry’s top talent and I’m excited to leverage their experience across our streaming and broadcast brands.”
