For the first time in its 37-year history, “Home and Away” will film a special storyline in Western Australia.
The long-running Australian drama will temporarily move production from its usual setting of Summer Bay to a range of WA locations, including Perth, the coastline, and the outback. Filming is scheduled to begin in October 2025.
The storyline details and cast involved are yet to be revealed, but producers say the WA setting will play a major role in the episodes.
The move is a partnership with Tourism Western Australia, aiming to showcase the state’s natural beauty and diverse landscapes.
Series producer Lucy Addario said: “Our cast and crew are beyond excited to be filming in Western Australia – a first for Home and Away. Its awe-inspiring beauty, diverse landscapes and sheer scale make it the perfect backdrop for this huge storyline.”
The WA episodes are expected to premiere in 2026 on Seven and 7plus.
Meanwhile, the show is preparing for the departure of long-time cast member Lynne McGranger, who has portrayed Irene Roberts for nearly 33 years. McGranger, nominated for both a Gold and Silver Logie in 2025, announced earlier this year that she would be leaving the series.
On her decision to leave “Home and Away,” Lynne said: “After almost 33 years in my dream role and working every day with people who I love, respect and whom I now consider family, it’s bittersweet to be closing the chapter on what has been the best and longest gig of my life.”
“I am forever grateful to the best production crew in the world and to our genius writers – whose doors are always open – for everything they have done for Irene over the past 33-odd years, and I am so proud of the storyline which will see Irene out of the Bay. Above all, a massive, heartfelt thank you to the fans for your continued love and support.”
Home and Away airs at 7.00pm Monday to Thursday on Seven and 7plus.
