“House of the Dragon” Season 3 is officially in production, with two new cast members officially confirmed to join the epic HBO drama.
Both Tommy Flanagan (“Sons of Anarchy,” “Gladiator”) and Dan Fogler (“Fantastic Beasts” franchise, “A Complete Unknown”) will appear in Season 3. Flanagan will play Ser Roderick Dustin and Fogler will play Ser Torrhen Manderly. It was previously announced that James Norton would be joining “House of the Dragon’s” third season as Ormund Hightower.
HBO has also confirmed that the third season will be eight episodes, like Season 2. The first season of the show had been ten episodes. Showrunner Ryan Condal had previously addressed the episode count issue, saying at a press conference in August 2024, “I haven’t had discussions with HBO about it. I would just anticipate the cadence of the show, from a dramatic storytelling perspective, will continue to be the same from Season 2 on.”
“House of the Dragon” serves as a prequel to “Game of Thrones,” set roughly 200 years prior to the events of the latter show. It is based on the book “Fire & Blood” by George R.R. Martin.
Returning cast for Season 3 includes: Matt Smith, Emma D’Arcy, Olivia Cooke, Steve Toussaint, Rhys Ifans, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Tom Glynn-Carney, Sonoya Mizuno, Harry Collett, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Phia Saban, Jefferson Hall, Matthew Needham, Tom Bennett, Kieran Bew, Kurt Egyiawan, Freddie Fox, Clinton Liberty, Gayle Rankin, and Abubakar Salim.
Martin co-created the series with Condal. Both serve as executive producers, with Condal serving as showrunner. Sara Hess, Melissa Bernstein, Kevin de la Noy, Vince Gerardis, David Hancock, and Philippa Goslett also executive produce. Clare Kilner, Nina Lopez-Corrado, Andrij Parekh, and Loni Peristere are directors on the third season.
