Jennifer Lopez to Host American Music Awards in May

Jennifer Lopez has been announced as the host of the 2025 American Music Awards show, set to air on CBS this Memorial Day, Dick Clark Productions announced Wednesday.

It’s Lopez’s second time hosting the music kudocast, 10 years after her debut handling those duties in 2015.

“We are thrilled to welcome Jennifer Lopez back to host the American Music Awards,” said Jay Penske, CEO of Dick Clark Productions, in a statement. “Jennifer’s incredible talent and incomparable stage presence make her the ideal host of the show.  We know she will bring her one-of-a-kind energy to the official kick-off celebration of summer.”

Her reappearance as host is not a complete surprise, as Lopez teased a comeback in that role when she appeared on the AMAs’ 50th anniversary special six months ago. That special took the fall time slot previously usually held for the American Music Awards, which have now been moved to a beginning-of-summer berth.

While this will mark only Lopez’s second time hosting the AMAs, she has performed on the show more than 10 times in the past.

The 51st anniversary edition of the AMAs will be streamed through Paramount+ as well as seen on CBS on May 26, live in all time zones at 8 p.m. ET/5 PT. Paramount+ with Showtime subscribers will be able to stream the live feed of their local CBS affiliate, as well as access the show on demand. Paramount+ Essential subscribers won’t have access to the livestream that night but will be able to watch it on-demand the day after the special airs.

Producers previously announced that the show will use its new Memorial Day slot to “pay special tribute to our U.S. troops and veterans through authentic performances and unforgettable moments.”

It was also previously announced that the AMAs will be broadcast from Las Vegas for the first time.

This is the first time the show has been on CBS after a long-term deal with ABC expired. There was a time-out between those deals, with it having now been two and a half years since a regular edition of the AMAs aired. But the ratings success of November’s “American Music Awards 50th Anniversary Special,” which had a significant uptick from the last regularly scheduled AMAs in 2022, augured well for the return of the annual broadcast.
