Rapper Tory Lanez was stabbed while in custody at the California Correctional Institute in Tehachapi for shooting Megan Thee Stallion in 2020, The New York Times has confirmed. Lanez was reportedly hospitalized Monday morning after he was stabbed by another inmate.
Lanez (real name Daystar Peterson) is said to be in stable condition after another inmate stabbed him with a self-made shank in a prison yard. He was rushed by ambulance to a nearby hospital in Bakersfield, according to an initial report from TMZ.
Representatives for Lanez and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation did not immediately return Variety‘s requests for comment.
Lanez has been serving jail time since August 2023 after being sentenced to 10 years in state prison. He is in custody for gun charges stemming from the 2020 incident in which he shot Megan in the foot. He was convicted in December 2022 of assault with a firearm, illegal possession of a firearm and negligent discharge of a gun.
In January, Megan was granted a five-year restraining order against the incarcerated rapper with an expiration date of Jan. 9, 2030.
Megan claims Lanez had been harassing her from behind bars. A judge confirmed the order, writing that Megan had “sustained burden of proof” to grant the motion. Megan’s request for a restraining order described Lanez as a “violent and dangerous criminal” with an “established pattern of behavior [demonstrating] the reasons this civil harassment restraining order is necessary to protect [Megan] and her wellbeing.”
