Get ready, players: Netflix‘s new mobile game “Squid Game: Unleashed” is adding characters and competitions from the recently launched Season 2 into the game beginning this Friday.
Among the additions that viewers will find familiar if they’ve already binged Season 2 (which debuted Dec. 26, following the Dec. 17 release of “Unleashed”) are the “Mingle” game, which eliminated dozens of players’ lives in just a few rounds on the show, and three Season 2 players: rapper Thanos (Player 230) and mother-son team Geuma-ja (Player 149) and Yong-sik (Player 007).
As Variety previously reported, “Squid Game: Unleashed,” which was developed in-house by Netflix’s growing games division, was made with input from the “Squid Game” TV series team and based on scripts for both Season 2 and the upcoming third and final season.
This is the first of multiple planned updates that will incorporate spoiler-related content into “Squid Game: Unleashed” following the drop of new episodes. Netflix is already planning a similar strategy for the game surrounding “Squid Game” Season 3, which is set to debut in summer or fall 2025.
Unlike Netflix’s other games, “Squid Game: Unleashed” is the first mobile the streamer has made available for free for non-subscribers to play. It also features a reward system that gives players in-game prizes for watching episodes of “Squid Game” Season 2.
See below for the upcoming planned Season 2 additions to “Squid Game: Unleashed,” per Netflix:
Game (Jan 3.): “Mingle,” a new map inspired by one of the memorable new games introduced in Season 2. Players will race to find safe rooms. If they don’t find themselves in a safe room when the timer runs out, they will get eliminated, but that doesn’t stop other players from eliminating each other.
Character (Jan. 3): Play as Geum-Ja (Player 149), the devoted mother from Season 2; she’s ready for play by having a chance to start each level with a dodgeball.
Event (Jan. 3 – Jan. 9): Dalgona Mash Up Collection Event: 3 Mingle-inspired games and a Dalgona tin collection event starting with exclusive Season 2 character reward: Geum-Ja.
Character (Jan. 9): Play as Thanos (Player 230): the charismatic rapper from Season 2, who brings his unique style and a bonus chance to use shields.
Event (Jan. 9 – Jan. 14): Thanos’ Red Light Challenge: use knives to eliminate players in-game to collect points towards unlocking exclusive Season 2 Character: Thanos.
Character (Jan. 16): Play as Yong-Sik (Player 007): the debt-ridden son of Geum-Ja from Season 2, who can start each game with fireworks that are sure to spark!
