Gary Stevenson, the former Citibank trader turned economic commentator known as Gary’s Economics to his two million followers, has announced an Australian tour for early 2026.

‘The People’s Economist’ tour will bring Stevenson’s online-famous opinions on economics and inequality to Australian shores for the first time.

The announcement comes as Stevenson continues to build his platform as a commentator, having gone from Wall Street’s most profitable trader to an advocate for systemic economic change. His journey from growing up in East London to becoming Citibank’s top performer by correctly predicting the lasting impact of the 2008 financial crisis has given him unique insights into the mechanisms driving wealth inequality.

Stevenson’s 2024 memoir “The Trading Game” became a number one bestseller in the UK for over 20 weeks and has been translated into more than 20 languages. The book has garnered significant praise from fellow authors, with Scottish novelist Irvine Welsh describing it as “‘The Wolf of Wall Street’ with a moral compass” that “lays bare the spiritual vacuity of the systems and processes that both dominate and reduce our humanity.”

Stevenson’s decision to leave trading behind stems from his desire to expose how rising inequality drives permanent economic crisis and declining living standards. His platform focuses on giving ordinary people the tools to understand and fight back against these systemic issues.

“I’ve been trying to sort out an Australia and New Zealand tour for ages, and we’ve finally managed to nail it down for Feb/Mar 2026,” Stevenson said. “Really looking forward to flying down under and convincing you lads to tax wealth and not work.”

The tour is being presented by Thinkable, a new events platform founded by Desh Amila, the entrepreneur behind Australia’s first intellectual touring company, Think Inc. Thinkable has previously brought notable figures, including Neil deGrasse Tyson, Jane Goodall, and Richard Dawkins, to live audiences in Australia.

“Gary is a rare figure – someone who has seen the system from the inside, profited from it, and then walked away to explain to the rest of us how it really works,” Amila explained. “His clarity and urgency resonate with millions, and Thinkable is thrilled to bring his insights to Australian audiences for the first time.”

The People’s Economist tour represents the second major event in Thinkable’s debut Australian season, following the recently announced Steven Pinker tour scheduled for February 2026.
