Certain things come as a guarantee when Christmastime rolls around. Big family gatherings, a lot of sun (or at least heat), and a strange dissociative feeling once it all ends. Oh, and “Love Actually,” in every medium you can imagine.
Seemingly the most unshakeable rewatches of all the Christmas classics, “Love Actually” is getting both a musical adaptation and another year of the in-concert treatment. For years now, “Love Actually” Live in Concert has drawn crowds on its global tours, and like clockwork, it’s returning to Australia again later this month.
The experience is exactly what it sounds like: a screening of the film accompanied by a live orchestra performing the soundtrack as the movie plays. And, to the jolly delight of Aussies around the country, it’s heading to Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth.

If the Hugh Grant, Liam Neeson, Colin Firth, Laura Linney, Alan Rickman, Emma Thompson, Keira Knightley, Rowan Atkinson and Martin Freeman-starring 2003 classic still hasn’t gotten boring 22 years since its release — or if it has — this is a step-up from rewatching it at home, that’s for sure.
This comes alongside the return of “Love Actually? The Musical” to Australian shores in late November, with shows booked for Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane throughout early December. The musical, just like the film, follows “nine quirky couples seeking love across the pond, the cheeky show delivers all the awkward meet-cutes, over-the-top grand gestures, and side splitting moments that fans crave”.
With its cheeky humour, catchy songs, and irreverent take on one of the most beloved Christmas films of all time, the show promises to be the ultimate untraditional holiday tradition. As Associate Producer Ashley Tickell puts it: “Whether you love Love Actually, love to hate it, or have never even seen it, you will actually love this musical.”
