Australian actor David Wenham has been inducted into the Australian Film Walk of Fame.

The ceremony, held at Ritz Cinemas on Thursday, February 19th, saw a bronze plaque bearing Wenham’s name unveiled ahead of a special screening of his latest film, “Spit”.

Randwick Mayor Dylan Parker called the induction a “fitting recognition of his extraordinary decades-long contribution to the world of television and film in Australia and around the world.”

“We are thrilled to host David in Randwick, and to acknowledge his contribution with a plaque on the Australian Film Walk of Fame.

“David’s work in major Australian films such as Moulin Rouge! and roles like the one he reprises in the Spit, have helped take a uniquely Australian style of storytelling to the world.”

Wenham’s plaque joins fellow legends such as Sigrid Thornton, who starred as his love interest in “SeaChange”, along with Claudia Karvan, Deborah Mailman, Michael Caton, Leah Purcell, Gary Sweet, and more.

The event included speeches from Wenham and Parker, with “Spit” cast members Arlo Green, Sami Afuni, and Indira Naidoo also in attendance.

Established by Randwick Council and the Australian Film Festival in 2008, the Walk of Fame celebrates local talent and the outstanding contributions of filmmakers and artists. The partnership continues with Ritz Cinema at The Spot in Randwick, supporting local businesses, artists, and the creative community.

Following the ceremony, a Q&A with Wenham and director Jonathan Teplitzky was held, before a special screening of “Spit”.

The picture is a sequel to 2003 comedy crime thriller “Gettin’ Square”, in which Wenham played Johnny ‘Spit’ Spitteri, a recently-released ex-convict and Sam Worthington (“Avatar”) played an older brother trying to keep the kid out of trouble.

The new film is directed by ‘Gettin’ Square” and “The Railway Man” director Jonathan Teplitzky, from a screenplay by Queensland-based writer and lawyer Christopher Nyst.

“Spit” hits cinemas on Thursday, March 6th.
