Sony has released the first trailer for Paul Rudd and Jack Black’s “Anaconda,” a reimagining of the classic 1997 snake horror movie.
Tom Gormican, who helmed “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent” and penned “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F,” co-wrote and directed the new “Anaconda” movie. Despite sharing a title with the 1997 thriller, “Anaconda” is not a remake of the original film that starred Jennifer Lopez, Owen Wilson, Ice Cube, Jon Voight, Eric Stoltz and Jonathan Hyde.
The new film centers on a group of friends who are facing midlife crises and set off to remake their favorite movie from their youth. Black plays Doug, a wedding videographer, and Rudd is Griff, a background actor. However, when the friends head into the jungle, things get real quickly. The cast also includes Thandiwe Newton, Steve Zahn, Daniela Melchior and more.
Last year, Rudd and Black confirmed the project and announced its Dec. 25 release date in a promotional video clip uploaded on YouTube. “We’re making a movie!” Black exclaimed at the start of the video. “Paul Rudd and Jack Black star in the ‘Anaconda.’” According to Rudd, audiences will experience a multitude of emotions while watching the film.
“You want to get scared,” he said in the video. “You want to laugh. You want to celebrate with your friends. Maybe you’re alone, sad and don’t have nobody but just want to forget about that. It’s coming out on Christmas in 2025.”
Brad Fuller and Andrew Form are producing “Anaconda” under their Fully Formed Entertainment production banner, with Kevin Etten as the co-writer.
