Independent Music New Zealand (IMNZ) and the NZ Music Commission have revealed the first details about Going Global Music Summit 2025.
Aotearoa’s premier music industry event is heading to a new location this year, taking place at Auckland’s Q Theatre between Thursday, August 28th and Friday, August 29th. The Artist Showcases, meanwhile, will see 24 performances across three stages at Whammy! and Double Whammy! on those evenings.
The first confirmed guests for the 2025 summit include some of the most respected figures in global music programming and artist development: Dark Mofo Festival Booker Kimberley Galceran; SXSW Senior Music Programmer Dev Sherlock; Secretly Group A&R Director Lau Frías; The Great Escape Festival Programmer Adam Ryan; Collective Artists Booking Agent Rebecca Young; SRM Bookings & Services Owner Satria Ramadhan and many more.
“We’re really looking forward to welcoming people from the global music community,” says IMNZ General Manager, Dylan Pellett, “giving them a chance to engage with our local music people, and experience some top-flight musical mavericks from Aotearoa.”
Going Global has become a major launchpad for local artists in recent years. 2024 showcasing artist Phoebe Rings, for example, connected with Max Thomas (Reason Why Management / Secretly Group) at the event, with Thomas subsequently signing them to his management roster and overseeing their international career. Phoebe Rings have since earned a glowing album review from Rolling Stone AU/NZ, and will support The Beths across North America later this year.
“Everyone at Going Global is there because they want to discover the best new artists before the rest of the industry does,” says Thomas. “It’s an incredible chance to get a leg-up on the global stage. If you’re a local artist and haven’t played Going Global yet — 1000% apply!”
Tickets to Going Global 2025 are on sale now, with early bird pricing available until August 4th via Q Theatre. The full lineup of experts from the fields of music A&R, booking, licensing, management, marketing, promotion, and publishing is expected to be announced soon. Confirmation of the Aotearoa artists showcasing at the event will also be revealed in the weeks to come.
