Bill Maher posted a video of himself on stage at his comedy show on Saturday night, where he shared his thoughts on the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump at a Pennsylvania rally.
“I so unequivocally denounce [the assassination attempt]. I don’t care what you think about that,” Maher said while performing at the Orpheum Theatre in Minneapolis. “Not funny. I’m sure there will be jokes that people will make because they hate him so much that they wish it went the other way. Not for me.”
“Whoever was the shooter has done so much damage to the left,” Maher added. “Lost a lot of moral high ground in the ‘you’re the violent people.’ You know, ‘liberals don’t shoot people, liberals don’t solve it that way.”
He continued, “When I say moral high ground…the 2025 Project that is the plank of the Republican Party, which starts their convention tomorrow in Milwaukee. I will be there to go to the strip clubs and see who’s there. The guy who wrote [the 2025 project], he said ‘This is our new plank,’ he said, ‘This is our new revolution of America,’ which I’ve heard a thousand times…But they don’t always say what this guy said, which is, he added, “It’ll be bloodless as long as the liberals let it happen.” Okay, that’s not cool either. This shit has got to stop because none of this violence happens in a vacuum.”
The shooter has been identified by the FBI as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, who was shot and killed by the Secret Service after the assassination attempt on Trump. On Saturday, Trump wrote on Truth Social that a bullet “pierced the upper part of my right ear.”
“I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin,” Trump continued. “Much bleeding took place, so I realized then what was happening.”
“I’m glad he’s okay. Trump, I gotta say, is the luckiest motherf—er that has ever walked the face of the Earth,” Maher said. “In 2016, he lost the popular vote by a lot and just pulled an inside straight. Everything happened in his way. The Democratic turmoil with Joe Biden being his opponent. Always lucky, lucky, lucky. When I saw that photo of him today with the blood streaming down his face, I don’t want to say the election is over but… Anything can happen in an election. But Jesus Christ, MAGA nation finally got it’s martyr.”
