“BIRD,” the latest vehicle for “Saltburn” star Barry Keoghan, will fly into cinemas across Australia and New Zealand next year.
Helmed by Oscar-winning British filmmaker Andrea Arnold (“American Honey,” “Fish Tank,” “Wasp”), “BIRD” is acquired by Mushroom Studios and The Reset Collective for a trans-Tasman theatrical release in early 2025.
“BIRD” enjoyed a seven-minute standing ovation following its world premiere in competition at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, and is selected to screen at the Toronto Film Festival, with more fests to be announced shortly.
“’BIRD’ is one of the year’s most highly anticipated independent films,” comments Mushroom Studios COO Bethany Jones. “With Andrea Arnold’s exceptional direction and Barry Keoghan’s powerful performance, the film delivers a story that will deeply resonate with audiences.”
The indie flick follows the journey of 12-year-old Bailey, who lives with her single dad Bug and brother Hunter in a squat in southern England, and embarks on a voyage of discovering as puberty leans in, and adventure calls.
The film also stars Franz Rogowski (“Passages,” “A Hidden Life”) plus newcomers Nykiya Adams and Jason Buda.
Part of the Melbourne-based independent music powerhouse Mushroom Group, Mushroom Studios produces and distributes original film, TV and audio projects. Since launching in 1993, the studio’s has delivered such projects as the global crime hit “Chopper,” Logie winning Ian “Molly Meldrum” biopic “Molly” and “Ego: the Michael Gudinski Story.”
“We are thrilled to team up with Mushroom on ‘BIRD,’” comments The Reset Collective managing director Lisa Garner. “Our shared love for independent film makes this partnership especially meaningful. ‘BIRD’ gifts audiences with a uniquely magical and captivating storytelling experience, the characters and their world linger long after the credits roll – we can’t wait to bring the film to Australian and New Zealand audiences.”
