“Deadpool & Wolverine” features an onslaught of memorable Deadpool variants, from Lady Deadpool (voiced by Blake Lively) to NicePool (Ryan Reynolds) and beyond. But one variant that did not make it into the film version of the Marvel blockbuster would’ve likely made comic book fans’ heads explode: Wolverpool. Or maybe it’s Deadverine.
Ryan Reynolds recently took to his Instagram story to share “Deadpool & Wolverine” concept artist by David Masson that mocks up the design that was being planned for Wolverpool before it was decided not to bring this Deadpool variant into the movie. The character features the Deadpool costume with an upgraded Wolverine mask and, of course, Wolverine’s adamantium claws.
“Starting off with Wolverinepool! Or Wolverpool, Deadverine? One of the variants that didn’t make the cut unfortunately,” Massonn wrote on Instagram.
Wolverpool wasn’t the only designed variant not to make it into the movie. Masson also shared concept art for Punkpool, a Deadpool variant sporting a spiked leather jacket and some serious anarchist energy.
Since opening at the end of July, “Deadpool & Wolverine” has become the highest-grossing R-rated theatrical release of all time with $1.15 billion at the worldwide box office. It currently sits as the second highest-grossing movie of 2024 behind “Inside Out 2” (which has grossed a mighty $1.63 billion and counting). Both films were released by Disney.
“Deadpool & Wolverine” continues to play in theaters nationwide from Disney. See Variety’s guide to all the Easter eggs and cameos from across the multiverse-hopping feature, including all the Deadpool variants and returning heroes from 20th Century Fox’s Marvel adaptations.
