The Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) has revealed the nominees for the 14th International AACTA Awards. Celebrating the best in global film and television, the winners will be announced during the 2025 AACTA Awards on the Gold Coast this February.
Leading the nominations is “Better Man”, the much-anticipated Robbie Williams biopic, earning six nods, including Best Film, Best Director for Michael Gracey (“The Greatest Showman”), and Best Lead Actor for Jonno Davies. Davies’ motion-capture performance as Williams marks a groundbreaking moment, highlighting the innovative strides of modern storytelling.
Close behind, “The Brutalist” secured five nominations, with Guy Pearce earning a nod for Best Supporting Actor. Golden Globe favourite “Emilia Pérez” followed with four nominations, while “Anora” and “Dune: Part Two” round out the Best Film category, offering a blend of independent grit and epic spectacle.
The nominations are brimming with Australian talent. George Miller earned a Best Director nomination for “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga”, a testament to his continued dominance in the action genre. Nicole Kidman received a Best Lead Actress nod for “Babygirl”, while Toni Collette’s performance in “Juror #2” earned her a spot in the Best Supporting Actress race.
Australian television is equally well-represented. “Boy Swallows Universe”, the locally produced drama based on Trent Dalton’s bestselling novel, earned a nomination for Best Drama Series alongside “Shōgun”, “Slow Horses”, and “The Diplomat”. On the comedy front, “Colin From Accounts” continues to punch above its weight, landing a nomination for Best Comedy Series alongside “The Bear”, “Hacks”, and “Curb Your Enthusiasm”.
Elizabeth Debicki continues her award-winning streak, earning a Best Actress in a Series nomination for her critically acclaimed portrayal of Princess Diana in “The Crown”. Jeremy Allen White (“The Bear”) and Hiroyuki Sanada (“Shōgun”) also headline the highly competitive acting categories.
This year’s awards are notable for breaking new ground: motion-capture performances have been recognised for the first time, reflecting the evolving landscape of performance and technology. Jonno Davies’ role in “Better Man” marks a milestone for the industry as technology and artistry merge seamlessly.
The winners will be revealed across two ceremonies held at HOTA, Home of the Arts, on the Gold Coast: the AACTA Awards Industry Gala on February 5 and the AACTA Awards Ceremony on February 7. Both events are part of the larger AACTA Festival, a five-day celebration of screen culture that includes workshops, meet-and-greets, and outdoor screenings.
The 2025 AACTA Awards will be broadcast on Channel Ten on February 7, with an extended version available on BINGE and Foxtel the following day.
