Kyas Hepworth is leaving NITV to become the head of Screen NSW.
Hepworth is currently the head of commissioning and programming at SBS’ Indigenous broadcaster NITV, and will take on the new role with Screen NSW in July.
At Screen NSW, Hepworth is replacing Grainne Brunsdon, who left to join Screen Australia as head of content earlier this year.
Screen NSW said during her time at NITV, Hepworth had developed stories which championed inclusive storytelling. Through her work across factual, scripted and children’s programming, she had also provided under-represented voices with a strong platform in content and production, the group said.
Hepworth said in her new role, she would continue to support screen stories and practitioners as well as promote the state as an attractive destination for all productions, big and small.
“I am incredibly excited to start my new role with Screen NSW to continue the incredible work of the many who have come before me, cementing NSW as a global leader for screen creatives and production,” she said.
An NITV spokesperson paid tribute to Hepworth.
“Kyas has made such an important and lasting contribution to NITV as the head of commissioning and programming, including being a driving force behind groundbreaking and beautiful First Nations storytelling that sets the channel apart,” they said.
“Her passion, insights and leadership will be missed here at SBS, and we wish her all the best with this exciting new opportunity and all that is ahead.”
NITV has not yet announced a replacement for Hepworth.
